About SENORA
The South Eastern Nurses Operating Room Association (SENORA) is a professional organization of perioperative nurses. Initiated in 1991, it provides a resource for nurses in Perth, Smith Falls, Brockville, Kingston, Bellville, Trenton, Napanee and Prince Edward County.
SENORA encourages and promotes:
- Enhancing the professionalism of perioperative nurses
- ORNAC standards of perioperative nursing practice
- Provides a forum for interaction and exchange of ideas and techniques
- Provides representation of SENORA members at the provincial level
Membership
ACTIVE: Perioperative Nurses actively employed in perioperative nursing, education or administration.
ASSOCIATE: Registered Nurses who are employed in other hospital disciplines related to the perioperative setting such as Post Anaesthesia Care Unit and Out Patient Nurses, Operating Room Technicians actively employed.
STUDENT: Individuals currently enrolled in a Post Graduate Perioperative Program
Fees: The annual membership fee is reviewed yearly by the Executive and approved by the voting membership. The annual fees are due in September of each year and shall be payable to SENORA. The membership year is from July 1st to June 30th.
The 2005-2006 membership fees are $40.00 for Active, $20.00 for Associates and $10.00 for Students.
Membership Benefits
- Automatic membership (active members only) in Operating room Nurses Association of Ontario (ORNAO)
- Combined education sessions/chapter meetings held in September, November, January, March and May.
- Eligibility to apply for the SENPRA bursary and the Johnson & Johnson Bursary.
- Financial assistance for perioperative room conferences, seminars and certification/recertification in Perioperative Nursing. (must meet funding guidelines)
- Reduced rates at Regional, Provincial and National Perioperative conferences.
- Access to OR Spotlight Newsletter and Canadian Nurses Operating Room Journal (CNORJ)
Education
- Education sessions/chapter meetings are held in September, November, January, March and May (for topics and locations contact president)
- An Education Day is always held the first weekend of November
SENORA Bursary Award:
- The SENORA Bursary awards are intended to encourage new nurses to pursue a career in operating Room nursing. SENORA members have nade a commitment to recruitment in light of the drastic nursing shortage throughout Ontario. SENORA has pledged two bursaries of $250.00 each year. A written letter of application should be sent by Sept 30th to the President Elect.
