ORNAO is a volunteer association that represents Registered Nurses as direct care practitioners, administrators, educators, and/or researchers practicing perioperative nursing in the province of Ontario.
Joining your regional association has many benefits, including:
- Networking with fellow perioperative registered nurses
- Educational sessions covering a broad range of topics which impact perioperative nursing today and tomorrow
- Subscription to the OR Journal
Membership Definition of Perioperative Nurse
A perioperative nurse is a Registered Nurse whose primary professional focus is to educate, manage and/or deliver nursing care to a human patient undergoing a surgical intervention, immediately preoperatively, intraoperatively, and immediately postoperatively.
Membership shall consist of:
- Active Members
Active members are Registered Nurses who meet the definition of a perioperative nurse and who are members of a regional perioperative Registered Nurses association in Ontario.
- Associate Members
A Registered Nurse who meets one of the following criteria:
- Practicing in an allied field of perioperative nursing using their specialized knowledge of perioperative nursing
- Retired or not currently employed in active perioperative nursing but participating in their regional perioperative Registered Nurses association through attendance at regional meetings &/or serving as a volunteer on their regional conference planning committee.
Associate members of ORNAO shall/will not be:
- A voting member of ORNAO
- A regional ORNAO board member or member of ORNAO executive
- Eligible for educational sponsorship from ORNAO
- Membership Year
The membership year shall be from 01 July of one year to 30 June of the following year.
- Regional Membership Active membership shall be maintained in only one Regional Association.
Fees
The membership year is July 1st to June 30th. Yearly membership fee is set by each region (see chart below). Membership registration must be received by November 30th. Payment must be received by December 15th. Late registrations will no longer be accepted.
